“Roma, non basta una vita!” as the saying goes: one lifetime is not enough for Rome. There is simply too much to see and discover. Not only the evidence of pre-Christian times such as the Forum Romanum and the Colosseum but also important sacred buildings such as St Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel are to be found here. In addition there are numerous other sights such as the Villa Borghese, the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain – indeed, it is almost impossible to visit them all.
Unimpressed by the masses of tourists and pilgrims streaming into the city, the Romans themselves go about their daily lives amid the vibrant yet noisy traffic chaos. The best idea is to follow their example and go with the flow during the day – and at night. Why not simply sit on a piazza and watch the world go by while sipping an aperitivo or caffè?
