The Lufthansa Group is aware of its responsibility for the protection of the environment and the climate. Under the subject ‘Balance’ it has been informing about corporate responsibility for more than two decades. In its 22nd sustainability report it delivered a positive assessment.
Fuel consumption in 2015 was able, with an average of 3.84 litres of fuel consumption per passenger and per 100 kilometres, to be kept at the same record low as the previous year. To improve its environmental balance the Lufthansa Group continuously invests in new technologies. In 2016 it will take delivery of 52 especially fuel-efficient and quiet aircraft, amongst them the Airbus A320neo and the Bombardier C-Series, which will start a new era of eco-efficient flying. This winter Lufthansa will expand its fleet with the first Airbus A350-900, the world’s most modern and eco-friendliest long-haul aircraft.
In 2015, the Lufthansa Group implemented numerous service improvements for its passengers. Within ‘Balance’, it also informs about offers in the product responsibility sector including electronic boarding passes, eJournals, offers for intermodality as well as voluntary CO2 compensation.
