Good news if you would like to use your smartphone, your tablet computer and other mobile devices on board: this is now possible on the Boeing 747-8 and 747-400, on the entire Airbus fleet as well as on the Embraer- and CRJ-fleet. This means that the entire Lufthansa long-haul fleet and a large part of the short- and medium-haul aircraft have now been approved for the continuous use of mobile electronic devices on board in flight mode.
Amongst the electronic devices that you may use during your entire stay on board are, besides smartphones and tablet computers also CD-, DVD- and MP3-player, e-book readers and game consoles. Only notebooks have to be turned off during take-off and landing.
But for the near future Lufthansa is planning to get the approval for the use of all appliances in online mode for all phases of the flight and all aircraft types. On long-haul flights you do not need to be without the internet. The broadband internet access FlyNet® is available on more than 90 per cent of all Lufthansa long-haul aircraft.
Out of courtesy for the other passengers it will not be possible to make phone calls on board.
