Bangkok is regarded as one of Asia’s liveliest cities. With its fast pace of life this place is booming and the streets are filled with a hectic bustle. Stalls and shops can be seen everywhere: on the one hand, luxury shops on wide boulevards and avenues; on the other, little shops on side streets, where the local inhabitants sell probably the best street food in the world. Alongside the ever-growing skyline of the banking district, the cityscape is characterised by wonderful Buddhist temples, busy markets and lush gardens. Visitors are enchanted by the countless magnificent, brightly coloured buildings in the Grand Palace complex. Especially impressive is the national shrine, the statue of the Emerald Buddha in the Wat Phra Kaew Temple. If you yearn for more greenery, you will find an opportunity to relax in Lumpini Park – if you want to keep fit, gym equipment is also available free of charge.
