If you’d prefer to avoid long waiting times at border control, then you’ll appreciate Zurich Airport’s automatic passport control, which you can use from now on when arriving in Zurich. Already a worldwide success at numerous international airports, this represents a time-saving alternative to conventional passport control desks. To benefit from this innovative service, you must be at least 18 years old and hold a Swiss, EU or an EEA state biometric passport (not ID card).
This is how it works: place your biometric passport on the passport reader. After checking the validity of your travel document, the doors into the security gate will open. The electronic photo in your passport is then matched with a live image. At the same time your personal details are checked. If everything is in order, the exit gates open and the data collected is immediately deleted.
You can of course, however, still use the conventional passport control.
