With the A350-900, Lufthansa is committed to a particularly modern and environmentally friendly long-haul aircraft: the kerosene consumption averages 2.9 litres per passenger per 100 kilometres of flight, which is 25% less than comparable aircraft types. This also reduces greenhouse gas emissions by a quarter. Seventy per cent of the aircraft is made from ultra-modern materials. This means additional corrosion resistance and weight savings.
The A350’s Rolls-Royce XWB engines are among the most efficient engines for large passenger aircraft currently in service. Together with the weight savings, they reduce noise levels by 50%.
By the middle of the next decade, Lufthansa will have modernised its entire long-haul fleet. The fuel savings alone amount to 500,000 tonnes per year, the equivalent of a CO2 reduction of 1.5 million tonnes.
