Good news about sustainability – Lufthansa Group is expanding its use of sustainable, alternative kerosene. On flights from San Francisco to Frankfurt am Main, Munich and Zurich, Lufthansa is refuelling using a blend of so-called Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This alternative fuel is derived from agricultural production and saves up to 80 % CO2 compared with fossil kerosene.
The Lufthansa Group takes its responsibility for the environment very seriously and has already launched many measures to reduce CO2 emissions from its aircraft.
For the current initiative, the Lufthansa Group has signed a supply contract for one million gallons (around 3.8 million litres) with Shell. The SAF is produced at a World Energy refinery in Paramount, California.
The Lufthansa Group has a great deal of experience in the use and support of sustainable fuel development. Using this fuel now on daily flights from San Francisco is an important step forward and will enable passengers to travel with reduced CO2 emissions.
