SWISS is converting its purchase options for ten additional Airbus A320neo aircraft into firm orders. These aircraft will join the fleet by 2024. The new orders complement the ten A320neo and five A321neo already on order. From 2019, SWISS will be adding a total of 25 new generation Airbus aircraft to its fleet, replacing older Airbus A320s and Airbus A321s.
The modern engine technologies and aerodynamic wingtips on these aircraft will lead to a significant reduction in fuel consumption of up to 20% per seat kilometre. The aircraft will also be fitted with noise-reducing vortex generators as standard. An A320neo taking off has a ‘noise carpet’ that is around 50% smaller than comparable aircraft types. With the introduction of the new Airbus A320 family, SWISS will have one of the most modern fleets in Europe.
