All business air travel by Lufthansa Group employees is CO2-neutral with retroactive effect from 1 January 2019. To do this, the CO2 emissions are offset by the renowned Swiss climate protection foundation myclimate. The donations are channelled into certified climate protection projects that meet the highest standards and make a positive contribution to sustainable development in addition to reducing CO2 emissions. In future, customers will also be able to offset their flight even more easily as the offer will be integrated directly into the booking screens. The Lufthansa Group’s commitment to the environment goes even further. By 2030, it will also convert its domestic markets in Germany, Austria and Switzerland to a CO2-neutral operation on the ground. This includes converting vehicles to electric or other emission-free propulsion systems and purchasing green energy exclusively at the earliest possible date.
A further step is the expansion of social commitment in Germany. The non-profit help alliance is the central pillar of the Lufthansa Group’s social commitment and manages all the Group’s social aid projects worldwide. The company's Executive Board has decided to significantly expand this commitment at major locations – in Germany to begin with – and to initiate new projects there. These projects will be independently proposed and supported by employees in accordance with the idea of help alliance.
