The Airbus A350-900 and Boeing 787-9 are among the most modern and environmentally friendly long-haul aircraft on the market. With the order of 20 Boeing 787-9s and a further 20 Airbus A350-900s, the airlines of the Lufthansa Group are consistently continuing the sustainable modernisation of their long-haul fleet and, in particular, replacing the four-engine aircraft with the economical twin-engine models. The Lufthansa Group is thus laying the foundation for the future in a long term and sustainable way. In addition to the economy of the A350 and B787, the significantly lower CO2 emissions of these new long-haul aircraft are also crucial. Responsibility for the environment is becoming increasingly important as a criterion in decision-making.
The aircraft will be delivered between 2022 and 2027. Lufthansa is introducing the new Boeing 777-9 much earlier. This investment in new technology, efficiency and more customer comfort continues the ongoing fleet modernization.
