A total of only ten airports in Europe have been awarded four stars, and worldwide there are only 35. The basis for the ‘4-Star’-award was an evaluation over several days by an international team of Skytrax experts, who checked and evaluated the service quality at the airport, the infrastructure at the terminal, shopping and restaurant services, as well as useful passenger facilities. In its service drive over the past few years, Vienna Airport has achieved a lot in this respect: innovations include a new system of signage and accessible information screens, services for families such as the Family Fun Gate and family security checks, special service counters and electronic waiting-times displays at the security checkpoints, as well as other services. Additional facilities are being developed all the time.
The 4-star seal of quality is Vienna Airport’s second Skytrax award. In spring 2015 Vienna Airport won the award for ‘Best Airport Staff Europe’. Based on interviews with more than 13 million passengers, the service-orientation and quality of service among all staff in passenger areas such as the terminal, the security checks, the information counters, the shops and restaurants and many other customer interfaces were evaluated.
