From 21 May 2019: adjustment of the OPC for payments with an American Express credit card

Since November 2018, Lufthansa, SWISS and Brussels Airlines have been using a differentiated model for the Optional Payment Charge (OPC). The individual OPC values are reviewed regularly in light of changing market conditions and individually adjusted if necessary.

The last review has resulted in an adjustment of the OPC value for American Express credit cards. Lufthansa, SWISS and Brussels Airlines will therefore adjust the OPC value to 1.80% on all distribution channels for payments made with an American Express credit card from 21 May 2019 (date of ticket issue).

Please note:

  • The OPC will continue to be charged on corporate credit card payments and all credit cards issued outside the European Economic Area.
  • The OPC will only be charged unchanged if you process payments in accordance with the Lufthansa Group Merchant Agreement.
  • Due to technical issues, Austrian Airlines will apply a uniform OPC for credit card payments until further notice.
